About The Role

As Assistant Plant Manager you will be working as an integral part of the Management team of M Group Services Plant & Fleet Solutions (MGPFS), this post is a new post, created to support a fast growing Plant Solutions business unit of MGPFS and is responsible for providing strong leadership and management, to ensure that we provide safe, compliant, innovative and commercially efficient plant solutions to support the businesses that form M Group Services.

The role is to support and deputise for the Area Plant Manager delivering a number of revenue, profit and safety targets for a range of group companies, contracts, alliances, joint ventures and partnerships, whilst continually developing further revenue opportunities and ensuring that we deliver exceptional customer experience levels. Responsibility for the management and control of the Hire Desk facilities, managing both the order/invoice processing and delivery of plant, equipment and accommodation to all businesses.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strong Leadership and Management of the Hire team comprising 10 Hire Controllers and 6 Delivery Drivers.
  • Full understanding of all Insphire processes with the ability to cover as and when required.
  • Recruitment, training and development of new team members.
  • Maintain performance in line with KPI’s
  • Monitoring of adherence to all SLA’s and rectification where necessary. 
  • Liaise with all customers at contract management level to ensure that all their plant and equipment requirements are met.
  • Develop solid working relationships with all contract based plant coordinators and approved orders.
  • Continuously review the levels of external hire and establish opportunities for the supply of internal equipment
  • Forecast future work based on contract awards and work with the customer on implementation / mobilisation.
  • Ensure all invoices are accurate and sent within the relevant time frame.
  • Manage performance of all suppliers in accordance with relevant SLA’s.
  • Resolving all invoice queries and identify areas which can be improved to reduce the volume of queries.
  • In conjunction with CSC, continuously review the PSL with a view to reducing the number of suppliers.
  • Increasing revenue through improved asset utilisation and identification of new products and services.
  • Asset management, ensure all assets are accounted for and in the correct status.Compile and submit Asset Disposal Applications in conjunction with CSC, continuously review age profile and stock levels of the fleet.
  • Maintain the integrity of Insphire, ensuring all reporting is live. Raise Capital Expenditure Requests in line with budget and requirements. 
  • Joint SHEQ responsibility for the operating depots and delivery operations.
  • Raising the standard of customer delivery and levels of customer satisfaction in partnership with key clients

Skills and Experience  

  • Previous operational management experience
  • Track record in a Customer facing team and managing performance
  • Strong background in Plant/Equipment Hire preferred
  • Experience of commercial development and marketing/sales would be an advantage 
  • Good people leadership and development skills
  • Able to build strong and sustainable customer relationship
  • Recognises and capitalises on new opportunities/innovative approaches
  • Financially focused
  • Coaching and passing on knowledge to others
  • Good knowledge of MS Office including a high level of Excel and preferably Hire Management software 
  • Industry experience and product knowledge
  • Relevant Safety Certification.
