About The Role

Morrison Energy Services is looking to recruit an Electrical Chargehand for our National Grid Electrical Transmission contract, who will support Nationwide projects.

As an Electrical Chargehand, you will be a part of our Electricity Transmission construction team who deliver National Grid and private generation company’s 66kV to 400kV projects. This involves refurbishing existing and building new substations including associated OHL works and HV cabling.

As the Electrical Chargehand your duties & responsibilities will be:

  • Assist the Site Supervisor to effectively manage the site based team, communicating methods of work to be employed which ensure the safe, smooth and efficient running of activities including the completion and issue of MES Safety Documents
  • Performance manage the site team to ensure that standards are maintained, activities delivered to time and quality requirements are met including checking of completed work and signing of MES Quality monitoring documentation
  • Supervise site personnel at the point of work, establishing and fostering a team environment and provide a two way link between the staff and the Site Supervisor on all issues
  • Assist the Site Supervisor to ensure health, safety and environmental issues are communicated to all staff and are managed throughout the site works to National Grid and MES Procedures
  • Assist the Site Supervisor to implement and maintain a proactive approach to the SHES plan. To include regular tool box talks and feed-back on incidents and positive staff initiatives
  • Assist the Site Supervisor to ensure that the activities their team are responsible for are delivered to programme and budget. Reporting of accurate on-site activity schedules to ensure a realistic view of the programme progress is being reported. Provide task specific information relating to their area of expertise to the Site Supervisor to assist in the maintenance of a realistic programme
  • Monitoring of quality and signing of quality documentation for all activities
  • Ensure good housekeeping is maintained both on site and in the shared welfare facilities. Reporting of faulty welfare facilities to Site Supervisor to ensure adequate facilities are constantly provided for staff
  • Assist Site Supervisor in carrying out daily/weekly inspections of all plant equipment and tools is carried out and Alliance documentation is completed. Reporting of faulty plant/equipment & ensuring this is quarantined & rectified
  • Assist Site Supervisor in maintaining a sufficient stock of site materials/consumables to progress programmed works
  • Lead by example in all aspects of daily work life including; Safety, attitude to co-workers, management and visitors, Quality, appearance and adherence to MES procedures and site rules
  • Assist Site Supervisor in utilising innovations or new techniques to improve performance & reduce costs

Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

  • City in Guilds or NVQ in relevant Field of Expertise
  • SSSTS Site Supervisor
  • CSCS / CPCS / ECITB Safety Passport / Card [supervisory preferred but not essential]
  • National Grid Competent Person
  • ECS Card
  • Ability to operate on own initiative within a prescribed framework but escalate problems where necessary
  • At least two years experience working in the Electricity Transmission or Distribution industries essential for Electrical Disciplines
  • Ability to read and understand drawings
  • Excellent oral communication Skills
