About The Role

Morrison Utility Services (MUS) is a diverse business providing services to electric, gas and water utility nationally. In respect to electricity MUS operate across a variety of contracts and these incorporate BS7671 Electricians, Smart Meter and DNO plus National Grid sites operating up to 400kV. MUS are also an Independent Network Operator under the teams of the National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) and contributing member of national organisations.

Principle Duties

The Group Electrical Safety Manager principle duty is to ensure all staff that work or operate on or near the various electricity networks conduct themselves in accordance with MUS and Client safety procedures to maintain “Safety from the System” and return home each day safety.

The Group Electrical Safety Manager reports to the MUS Director of Safety and has a small team reporting to him.

Duties include:

  • Ensuring all staff are determined as competent for their assigned duties in writing
  • Maintaining and developing all electrical external accreditation's
  • Maintain written policies and procedures across the whole scope of MUS electrical work
  • Develop new documentation and processes as necessary
  • Manage the team to provide a service across all electrical work streams to ensure a consistent approach to Competency
  • Develop and implement in association with other personnel electronic field records
  • Support the wider business interest including business opportunities
  • Represent MUS at national forums including:
  • Energy Network Association (ENA)
  • Lloyds Register – NERS Forum
  • Lloyds Register – NERSAP
  • National Skills Academy for Power (NSAP)
  • Association of Meter Operators (AMO)
  • Meter Operators Code of Practice Agreement (MOCOPA)

The candidate preferable should have the following attributes:

  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET)
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer
  • Hold a Safety Qualification such as NEBOSH
  • Have a strong operational background preferably in association with DNO’s or similar organisations
  • Knowledge of Smart Metering and BS7671
  • Managed a team
  • Have good interpersonal skills and demonstrate clear safety behaviours
  • Have a clear focus on operational safety
  • Have an understanding of the development of the power industry and its challenges
  • MUS are a national business and travelling throughout the UK with up to several nights away is an integral part of the role.
