About The Role

Morrison Utility Services are currently looking to recruit a Grab Lorry Driver to work on our Western Gas Alliance Contract. As a Grab Lorry Driver you will be part of the materials delivery team, operating one of our state of the art HGV’s supporting our gas main replacement teams.

Working with Wales and West Utilities, we are part of a team helping to upgrade 330 kilometres of the South West’s gas mains every year. If you enjoy doing a manual job and working outdoors as part of a team then this could be the opportunity for you.

This position will include fully paid for training and free issue safety work wear and PPE. Paid overtime, holiday pay, sick pay and paid Bank Holidays.

As a Grab Driver your duties & responsibilities will be:

  • Deliver and collect materials, pipes and equipment to and from our mains replacement teams across the south west.
  • Ensure the safety of members of the public and operational staff whilst the HGV is operating.
  • Assist with the backfill of pipe excavations and trenches in the highway.
  • Assist with signing, lighting and guarding of works.
  • Remove construction waste materials to recycling centres and clear sites of debris.

On successful completion of the training you will:

  • Be registered with the Energy and Utility Skills Register (EUSR) database.
  • Be trained and qualified to undertake backfill & reinstatement in the highway.
  • Be trained and qualified to national streetworks standards (NRSWA qualification).
  • As part of the wider up-skills programme, there will be significant potential future opportunities for the right candidate.

Skills & Knowledge Requirements for this Grab Driver role:

  • To be reliable and punctual with good communication skills to ensure team and customer services delivered.
  • To be in possession of a Full HGV Class 2 Licence for Grab Lorry Driver.
  • Have a good understanding of tachograph regulations.
  • Hold an NPORS Clam Shell and Bucket qualification.
  • To be physically fit and good with your hands as these roles can be physically demanding, involve bending, lifting and manual handling. However, much of the work will be carried out by mechanical equipment to assist with this.
  • Be prepared for outdoor working conditions which may be wet and dirty.
  • To understand that working hours and travel are not always predictable as things do go wrong, you need to be adaptable and flexible, paid overtime working will be required.  
  • Previous utility sector experience is not essential as full training will be provided.

Additional Information

  • Overtime is paid at time and a half with the Sunday premium at double time.
