About The Role

Morrison Utility Services is recruiting for a Contract Operations Manager for our Green Energy business based in Liverpool.

The Contract Operations Manager will be a pivotal member of our Senior Management team who are responsible for pre and post tender operational activities. This is a challenging senior management position that will focus on securing and delivering contracts nationally in the UK and Ireland in the “Green Energy” sector. 

The “Green Energy” sector is a new and emerging market for Morrison Utility Services. With a focus on projects such as District Heating and Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure, this is an exciting time to join a business unit with ambitious growth plans for the next 12 months.

As Contract Operations Manager your responsibilities will be: 

  • Direct management of a team of Project Managers and a Back Office Manager.
  • Building a strong relationship with Client, Supplier and Joint Venture counterparts.
  • To provide operational support with bids and contracts to ensure robust pricing, risk management and governance.
  • To monitor and manage the performance of MUS direct staff, agency staff and subcontractors with respect to the required standards of Health and Safety, Quality and the Environment.
  • To ensure all processes are followed to minimise and keep WIP within the contract and business target.
  • To provide operational support in the procurement of all Sub-contractors, Suppliers and Joint Venture partners.
  • To develop and implement changes to process, following understanding of a need to improve performance.
  • Monitor and manage the programme milestones.
  • To ensure the timely production and document control of all as built and progress records.
  • Engage in the monthly Cost and Value Reconciliation.
  • To plan, recruit and co-ordinate all operational resources for current and future works.
  • Be the face of Morrison Utility Services Limited for all Client, Contractor and Joint Venture partner operational issues.

Essential Skills and Knowledge requirements:

  • Extensive operational management experience.
  • Knowledge of activities undertaken in the Green Energy sector.
  • Operational knowledge and experience of District Heating schemes. 
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and work with staff at all levels.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the administration of Contracts (E.g. NEC, ICE & JCT suite of contracts).
  • Knowledge of service delivery within the utilities sector.
  • Project Management experience in the utilities sector across multiple sites.
  • Previous experience working in a Joint Venture and alliance partnership.
  • An understanding of all relevant statutory, regulatory and company policies and guidelines.
  • The ability and desire to identify opportunities for improvement, and influence change.
  • Effective negotiator and able to influence others. 
  • Excellent foresight and ability to plan ahead.
  • A full Driving Licence and willingness to travel on a frequent basis.
